Suspension Tuning

The Cycologist can make your front and rear suspension work better than the day you bought it!

Tuning Your Suspension…

Your investment in suspension for your bike is only as good as its fine tuning. All the factors that affect selection, also affect the tuning of the suspension.

Front and rear mountain bike suspension must have proper adjustments made to all aspects including:

  • Preload and Sag
  • Compression Damping
  • Rebound Damping
  • Stable Pedal Platform Valves
  • Customizing Springs, Oil Weights and Levels

We have worked with riders from 90 to 300 pounds and riders ranging from weekend warriors to cross-country racers, dirt jumpers and free riders to maximize the potential of their suspension.

Making Your Suspension Last Longer

Regular maintenance is critical to ensure peak performance and durability of your bicycle. Many people do remember to have their drive train and braking components serviced on a regular basis, but our suspension forks frequently suffer from neglect for years before making themselves heard loud and clear with leaking oil, clunking or diminished performance.

Almost every fork manufacturer recommends a thorough servicing at intervals of 40-100 hours of riding, depending on the fork and riding conditions. This type of service entails complete disassembly, cleaning, changing the lubricating and damping oil, and change of oil or air seals as needed.

Our experience has been that at least half of the suspension forks out there have never had this type of maintenance

A fork overhaul will rejuvenate your old fork so it performs as good as new , and, just like changing the oil in your car, is needed to maximize your fork’s lifespan.

Selecting the Right Fork for YOU...

If there was one “right” type of suspension for all riders, we would only have to pick our favorite color and be done. You’ve probably noticed, however, that there are dozens of different suspension systems available.

The ideal suspension for you is determined by factors such as:

  • rider weight
  • terrain and riding style
  • commitment to maintenance
  • desired longevity
  • travel requirements

The Cycologist can assist you in determining
the best suspension for your individual needs.
