Custom Bicycle Fitting

Who needs a fitting and why?

No pain, no gain? Not when you are riding a properly fit bike!

Most people don’t think about the fit of their bike until they start experiencing pain but the fact is that everyone can benefit from a fitting. Even if you are comfortable on your bike you may be unaware of how your positioning is making you biomechanically inefficient. Our goal is to enhance your cycling experience by making you comfortable and efficient on your bike – allowing you to RIDE FARTHER AND FASTER.

Women, in particular, can benefit from a bicycle fitting because virtually all bicycles and components are designed around the proportions of an average male. Female riders typically have shorter torsos and arms, longer legs, smaller hands, and narrower shoulders, which create unique needs.

What is a bicycling fitting?

A professional fitting with The Cycologist begins with an analysis of your riding history and goals. Two individuals with exactly the same measurements may ride two very different bikes. In fact, our ideal fit may change as we age or change our riding goals. By learning about your “ideal ride” we can begin the fitting process with these goals in mind.

The interview continues with The Cycologist assessing any pain you may be experiencing while on the bike. You may have been riding with pain in your neck, shoulders, back, hands, knees or saddle area for so long that it feels like it is just part of riding a bike.

In addition, The Cycologist will gather information about any past injuries or chronic medical conditions you may have that affect your positioning on the bike.

This consultation process is then followed by a detailed series of measurements beginning at your toes and culminating at your fingertips. These measurements, in conjunction with the information gathered during the consultation, allow us to make adjustments to your bike to eliminate pain and put you in biomechanical alignment.

When is the best time to do a fitting?

The ideal time to do a fitting is before you buy a new bike. A fitting educates you on what to look for in terms of ideal frame size, stem and crank length, handlebar width, and component selection that matches both your body and riding goals. Having a Cycologist fitting before you buy a new bike assures you will walk out the door of any shop with a bike that will be comfortable and efficient – which means you will ride more.

What if I just bought a new bike or am not planning on buying a new bike for a while, you ask? No sweat, a fitting is also appropriate in these situations because we can make changes that will make any bike fit you better.

The worst thing you can do is spend another year riding inefficiently and uncomfortably when the small investment in a fitting means you can maximize the fun on your bike.

What are The Cycologist’s qualifications?

What does a fitting cost?

Fittings are provided on an hourly basis.

Our Quick Fit is a 60 minute appointment for $60 and is tailored for individuals using a flat or toe-clip pedal system. The Quick Fit gives you basic information on the proper combination of top tube and stem, saddle height and fore and aft position of the seat, but does not make any actual changes to the bike.

Our Performance Fit is a 90-150 minute appointment and is $90-150 which covers a complete bicycle fitting, cleat alignment, pedal stroke analysis and fine tuning. A session of this type is suited for individuals wishing to use a clip in pedal system and examine every last detail of their fit.

How do I schedule a fitting?

Fittings are scheduled 7AM – 3PM Monday – Saturday.
